From Attendance Tracking to Workforce Productivity: A Construction Case Study in Jordan

Construction labour productivity management case study for a contractor in Jordan.

The Challenge: Limited Visibility into Labour Output

A leading construction and development company in Jordan manages a large workforce across multiple construction projects. Workers could be assigned to different projects and activities, making it difficult for management to determine exactly what work each labourer performed on a particular day.

The company had visibility into attendance, but lacked a structured system to connect attendance with the actual work performed. As a result, management could not systematically record activities, measure daily output or determine individual labour productivity.

In case of labourers from foreign who are working based on visa, the company had no track who is work in which site.

The challenge was further complicated by a variable payment structure. Workers could receive different rates for normal working hours, overtime and holiday work, while each work activity also carried a defined value.

The company needed a system that could bring these factors together and provide a consistent method to calculate and monitor workforce efficiency.

The Tactive Solution: A Dedicated Labour Productivity Process

Tactive ERP developed a customised labour productivity process designed around the company’s workforce and payment structure.

The process connects the key stages of workforce tracking:

Attendance → Activity → Outturn → Labour Value → Efficiency

Rather than treating attendance and productivity as separate records, Tactive created a system that connects a worker’s presence with the activity performed and the output delivered.

How Construction Labour Productivity Tracking Works

The system records labour attendance and identifies the project and activity associated with each worker.

It then captures the worker’s outturn, enabling the actual work completed to be measured against the applicable value assigned to that activity.

The system also incorporates the company’s variable payment conditions, including normal working hours, overtime and holiday work. By bringing working time, activity, output and applicable payment values together, the system can calculate a measurable value for the work performed.

To make workforce performance easier to interpret, the company uses four grades to classify labour efficiency. Tactive incorporated these parameters into the process, allowing the system to calculate and identify the efficiency level of workers based on their recorded activities and output.

The same applies for visa based labours. Now the company can identify their site of work, their transfer, and track productivity.

The Impact Improving Workforce Visibility and Efficiency

The customised process gave management a structured view of workforce activity and productivity. It enabled the company to:

  • Record labour attendance systematically
  • Track workers across projects and activities
  • Capture daily work output
  • Track visa based workers
  • Account for different payment conditions
  • Calculate labour efficiency
  • Classify workforce performance using defined efficiency grades

The Key Takeaway : Connecting Attendance with Labour Productivity

For large construction projects, knowing whether a worker was present is only the starting point. What matters equally is what work was performed and what was achieved.

By connecting attendance, activity, outturn, payment parameters and efficiency, Tactive ERP helped the company establish a structured, data-driven approach to measuring workforce productivity.
